So winter is almost in full swing although it doesn't always feel like it. Major changes have occurred to the website with regards to content and structure to enable your browsing experience to be smoother and faster. Our service and maintenance workshop has been kept extremely busy with services and engine builds since our March Madness Discount Sale. With the Landy Festival happening this weekend everyone has decided to get those accessory upgrades, services, brakes checked full diagnostic reports so that their Landy is rough and ready. If you would like to book your Land Rover in for brakes or even just a check up to ensure that your vehicle is in optimum health, then contact us to book your Landy in.

We have been hard at work trying to finalise our relationship with a few solid 4x4 brands to help us offer our clients the best quality products at the best prices. We are glad to say that we have had a few brands stand up and be counted. In addition to this we are also creating an accessories corner where you will be able to buy all the goodies you need for your next trip.

Land Rover Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport suspension troubles are over

This week we are pleased to announce the addition of the Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 and the Range Rover Sport (2005 to 2013) to our product range.

There is a common issue on these vehicles where the oil filled rubber front lower arm bush fails regularly causing vague steering and accelerated tyre wear.

Their new front arm rear bush, PFF32-402, not only offers a reliable solution by using their unique blend of polyurethane but along with the clever use of voiding and inserts, it can be tuned to suit the owners driving requirements whether it be for comfort, off roading or performance driving.

The supplied inserts can be fitted into the ends of each bush, reducing movement in the bush and allowing for less flex.

Leaving the inserts out allows for a suitable amount of compliance for general road and off road use whilst still offering improvements to the handling and steering feel over the original bushes.

PFF32-401 front arm front bush compliments the rear bush by further improving steering response.

Another common fault on these vehicles is a light knocking from the front end. This is generally caused by softened anti roll bar bushes so to remedy this, we have a range of anti roll bar bushes for the Discovery and Sport covering models with and without ACE suspension.

For models with ACE Suspension use PFF32-404-34 Front Anti Roll Bar Bush and PFR32-405-34 Rear Anti Roll Bar Bush.

For models without ACE Suspension use PFF32-403-30 Front Anti Roll Bar Bush and PFR32-405-22 Rear Anti Roll Bar Bush.

Three Provinces 4×4 Adventures

The Three Provinces trails are on a farm called Waterval, which is three hours’ drive from Gauteng, near Volksrust.

Here, on the top of Langkrans (a sheer cliff 2 253 m above sea level), is where KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Free State officially meet in a masterpiece of nature, hence the name Three Provinces.

Located on the Natal Battlefields Route, Three Provinces 4×4 Adventures has three trails: the 34 km Three Provinces Trail, the 8 km Wildkamp Trail and the 5 km Bobbejaankrans Trail. The Three Provinces Trail is a scenic route that takes a full day to complete. It’s interspersed with challenging sections where drivers need to keep their wits about them.

One such section is Helshoogte, a grade 5 steep incline with loose boulders and a stream running down the track. It has humbled many a driver, so be careful… You will need experience, a good knowledge of your vehicle and a calm head to negotiate your way to the top. This section is worse in wet weather, when recovery gear is essential.

A worthwhile additional trip operated by Three Provinces, is the guided Roodedraai Battlefield Route. Varying between 70 km and 90 km, it takes a full day to complete. It needs to be booked in advance. The Roodedraai route takes you onto the adjoining farms, where the battles of Allemansnek, Karenplaats and Amajuba took place. A guide vehicle and historical expert are available.

The area is rich in history, and the Waterval farmhouse dates back to the 1800's. It’s been in the Geldenhuys family since 1952, and Ronel has a wealth of information and anecdotes about the region.

Accommodation

The two-bedroom farmhouse sleeps 6 and offers catering. Alternatively, you can stay in one of two self-catering guest houses that sleep 6 and 20 respectively, or in one of two mountain log cabins that sleep four each. The camp site at the foot of a cliff has hot water but no electricity.

What else?

The Roodedraai Museum is well worth a visit. There you will find relics of old country living, and there is a children’s pet farm nearby.

World Wheel Changing Championships - How fast can you change a wheel on a Land Rover?

The Landy Festival is proud to announce that they will be organising and hosting the World Wheel Changing Championships for the second year. Yip you read right… Wheel Changing Championship!

In a series of knock out heats leading up to a Grand Final on Sunday in front of 1000′s of people, we will be deciding who is the fastest Wheel Changer on the planet. We have some really awesome prizes.

How how will we decide who the Champion of Champions is.

The Wheel Changing Process.

  1. Competitors will stand behind the line on the Cooper Tyres Stand.
  2. Competitors will start their own stopwatch.
  3. Run to the vehicle, pick up wheel spanner and loosen all wheel nuts.
  4. Take the wheel off and run with it (rolling or carried) around a pole and back to vehicle.
  5. Fit the wheel back on to the vehicle ensuring all nuts are tight.
  6. Run to table and stop stopwatch.
