SA 4x4 Community and Reach for a Dream

Reach for a dream 4x4 Family Day

The SA 4x4 Community Forum in conjunction with Reach For a Dream (RFAD) is hosting the third annual 4x4 fun day at Base 4 on 8 March 2014!

As in the past the event focuses first on raising the needed funds for RFAD to help them create lasting dreams for terminally ill children. The event has had huge success in the past three years and the 4x4 Community is proud of being part and main organisers of the event.

We will keep the focus on fun and family. The event is not a vehicle destroying competition and we do not only focus on the advanced drivers. Everybody form experienced to novices are welcome! Some fun and games are also incorporated so that even the least experienced driver will have fun.

Wimpy will also be available on the day with their famous breakfast and lunches. Drinks and other beverages will be available for sale in the main clubhouse.

RFAD 4x4 Family Day

Camping is available at a cost of R65 per stand and can be arranged with BASE 4 directly.

As per usual we will have a raffle and numerous large prizes up for the winning team, drivers (men and women) and LWB & SWB. The Off Road Marshall Unite has kindly donated their time to help marshal the event.

For booking forms or for more information please visit the forum or contact RFAD (Marnique Nel) on 012 368 1542 for more information...

Landy Festival

We are down to 67 days until the Landy Festival for 2014

Landy Festival 2014 Update.

Just a little update of how planning is going for this years Landy Festival.

Being their 3rd year of organizing the Landy Festival they're a little more prepared and had their lists and budget ready from early. Since their last newsletter went out announcing our on line booking process open we sold out the campsite within the first 3 days. As the sites can accommodate up to 6 people if you have any mates you'd like to join you in the main campsite this can be done.

Please email sales@landyfestival.co.za to find out how.

Who Knew

Land Rover Ninety and One Ten

Production of the model now known as the Defender began in 1983 as the Land Rover One Ten, a name which reflected the 110-inch (2,800 mm) length of the wheelbase. The Land Rover Ninety, with 93-inch (2,362 mm) wheelbase, and Land Rover 127, with 127-inch (3,226 mm) wheelbase, soon followed.

Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Initially the Land Rover was also available with a part-time 4WD system familiar to all derivatives produced since 1949. The part-time system failed to sell and was quickly dropped from the options list by 1984. While the engine and other body panels carried over from the Series III, mechanically the Ninety and One Ten were modernized, including:

  • Coil springs, offering a more comfortable ride and improved axle articulation
  • A permanent four-wheel-drive system derived from the Range Rover, featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential
  • A modernised interior
  • A taller one-piece windscreen
  • A new series of progressively more powerful and more modern engines
